CLAT 2026 – General Instructions
The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2026 will be conducted in offline mode across the country. The application process, however, is completely online and must be submitted only through the official website of the Consortium of NLUs – consortiumofnlus.ac.in.
Examination Date and Timings
- The CLAT 2026 examination is scheduled for Sunday, 7th December 2025.
- Timings: 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM (general candidates).
- For candidates under the PwD category, the exam will be held from 2:00 PM to 4:40 PM.
- The schedule may be revised, if necessary, by the Consortium.
Eligibility
- Indian Nationals and NRIs can apply for the PG programmes through CLAT 2026.
- Foreign Nationals are not permitted to appear for CLAT.
- For NRI and NRI-sponsored seats, candidates must check the individual NLU websites and e-brochures, since admissions under these categories are handled directly by the respective universities.
Information About NLUs
- Details regarding intake, reservation, fee structure, and specialisations are provided in the CLAT Information Brochure and on the websites of participating NLUs.
- Applicants are strongly advised to review the rules, policies, and fee structures of their preferred NLUs before filling the application form.
Important Dates
- Application Opens: 1st August 2025
- Last Date to Apply: 31st October 2025 (till 11:59 PM)
- Application forms must be completed and fee paid within the deadline. Incomplete or incorrect applications will not be considered.
Application Process
- Register on the CLAT 2026 portal using a valid mobile number and email ID.
- Verify your registration with the OTP sent to the mobile number.
- Log in using your mobile number and password to complete the application.
- Ensure that the candidate’s name and parents’ names are correctly entered as per official documents. Errors may lead to disqualification.
- Once the form is submitted and fee paid, no changes will be allowed in programme, category, or BPL field.
Tie-Breaker Rule
In case of equal marks, preference will be given in the following order:
- Candidate with higher age.
- If still tied, admission will be decided by a computerised draw of lots.
Reservation and Seat Allocation
- Reservation benefits will be provided only if candidates produce valid certificates issued by the competent authority as required by the respective NLUs.
- Participating NLUs may revise seat numbers and reservation policies in line with government notifications.
- Seat allotment through CLAT is provisional and does not guarantee admission until all verification is complete.
Documents to Upload (in PDF format)
- Recent passport-size photograph (plain background, front-facing).
- Candidate’s signature.
- Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC), if applicable.
- PwD certificate (if applicable).
- BPL certificate (if applicable).
Note: Original documents must be presented at the time of admission as per the guidelines of the allotted NLU.
Application Fee
- General/OBC/NRI: ₹4,000/-
- SC/ST/BPL/PwD: ₹3,500/-
- Previous years’ question papers: ₹500/- (extra, not part of the application fee).
- Payment must be made online; bank transaction charges are borne by the candidate.
- Fees are non-refundable and non-adjustable.
Admit Card
- Admit cards/hall tickets will be available for download from the candidate’s CLAT account before the exam.
- The release date will be notified on the Consortium website.
